BIO
I’m Dorian de Rijk, an interdisciplinary artist, and I make monsters. With the film installation Valerius I have won the AHK graduation prize in 2016 (MA Artistic research in and through film, NFA). Since I have done multiple projects on the intersection of visual arts, social design, performance, food and film. I have worked with BNN/VARA, VPRO, Gemeente Amsterdam, Kaan Architecten and others and set up partnerships with the World Press Photo foundation and Stichting Pride Amsterdam, Het Amsterdam Museum and more. Central to my practice is the quest to create a ‘vrijplaats‘—a ‘third space‘—in which transformative processes can take shape. I investigate (in)visible structures of inclusion and exclusion and how one can create the conditions of possibility: to play the program and experience freedom.
I hold an MA in Artistic Research (AHK) and a BFA Fine Arts from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. I have studied Freie Kunst with Christopher Williams and Bühnenbild with Lena Newton at the Staatliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. In spring 2026, I am expected to graduate from the Master’s of Arts Education program at the AHK.
